Indonesian corn farmers manage fall armyworm successfully

July 31, 2020

Indonesia’s 2019/20 corn production is estimated to increase to 12 mt, according to the US Department of Agriculture. As more farmers are able to utilize best practices for managing fall armyworm (faw), yields are expected to increase, elevating production to 12.05 mt in 2020/21. Farmers are succeeding in managing the faw infestations with insecticides containing spinoteram, emamektin benzoate, or cyantraniliprol as active ingredients. At the end of April, the Agriculture Ministry reported the total area infected by faw had declined to 9661ha compared to the first crop cycle of 16,000ha.
