East Malaysian state monitoring broiler prices

July 13, 2020

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry in Sarawak is stepping up monitoring and inspection of local broiler prices, on the back of skyrocketing prices in Peninsular Malaysia due to the movement control order (MCO) period. Enforcement officers from nine branches statewide were deployed to check on prices at markets and supermarkets. Standard chicken pricing during the MCO and recovery MCO period ranged from USD 1.60 – 2/kg. Inspection at three major state poultry farms also found that production was sufficient at an average of 35,000/day.
