Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture has developed 14 high yielding corn seeds to help increase national corn production. Suwandi, Director General of Food Crops said all the seeds have the potential to produce more than 11 tons/ha, compared to 6.4 tons/ha of local corn productivity. However, he continued, each seed has specialty and weather preferences. “For example, JH-37 seed is suitable for dry land while JH-30 seed is for the highland region. So, corn farmers should choose the right seed for their farm conditions,” he said.
