Bird flu flares in village poultry flocks in Vietnam

July 10, 2020

Vietnam’s central province of Da Nang has reported two new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus A/H5N6 in two independent farms. The outbreaks killed 3987 of 8100 susceptible birds. According to the local veterinary Department, the infected farms had not vaccinated their birds. The Department of Animal Health said Vietnam has enough vaccine for avian influenza. However, there are still outbreaks of bird flu in small farms in remote areas where farmers did not vaccinate their flocks properly.
