Demand for Vietnam’s canned tuna spiked during lockdown

June 30, 2020

Lockdowns in some countries caused demand for seafood in general and for tuna in particular to drop sharply. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep), Vietnam’s tuna export value up to May decreased by nearly 20% compared to the same period last year. However, export of canned tuna has increased by 9% as demand for food storage surged in many countries. Vasep predicts exports of tuna products may recover in Q3, when the pandemic is controlled and business activities in major importing markets recover.
