Sales of ‘Spam’ canned ham in South Korea is expanding at the fastest pace in years. Producer CJ CheilJedang said when Covid-19 started spreading in February and March, consumers stayed home and cooked more, but many people still had leftover Spam from holiday packages. It was not until April that sales soared more than 50% from a year earlier. “The virus outbreak has revived the domestic canned food industry, which was on the verge of stagnating. Now we are expecting growth,” said Lee Seung Hoon of CJ.
