by Rajeswari Ramanee – As Singapore prepares to open its economy on June 1, specialty butchers such as Hubers has to play catch-up. Executive Director Andre Huber told Asian Agribiz that while retail is good, wholesale has taken a hit. “Even with Australia helping to subsidize freight charges, it is still twice the amount of what we used to pay,” he said. He expects consumer spending to be on the cautious side, but there will be accumulated disposable income to spend. “People will still spend on quality ingredients to cook at home.”
