Lockdown lucrative for lobster farmer in East Malaysia

May 22, 2020

A couple who operate a lobster farm near Kota Kinabalu, Sabah experienced a spike in sales during Malaysia’s lockdown period. Susanti and Sharul Hanif Hamid said sales have skyrocketed to USD 460/week via Facebook and Whatsapp orders. Their company Fastharvest Aquaculture Enterprise specializes in Australian redclaw crayfish freshwater lobster and its larvae. They attribute the spike to hobby lobster farming which is lucrative as well as for Ramadan breaking fast meals. The lobsters retail at USD 27/kg and at wholesale for USD 11-18/kg.
