Thailand ensures sufficient egg supplies despite rising exports

March 26, 2020

Egg production in Thailand is sufficient for consumers during a two-week lockdown in Bangkok and peripheral areas, according to the Department of Internal Trade. The department issued the statement to dispel fears that egg prices will rise due to exports to Singapore.  Exports to Singapore account for only 5% of total production. “Up to 95% of egg exports is shipped to Hong Kong and delivery to this market has declined,” said Deputy Director General Prayote Pensut. Thailand produces 41 million eggs/day, 95% of which is consumed locally. There is a surplus of about 1-2 million eggs/day, which is diverted to Hong Kong and Singapore.
