Sales of chilled and frozen pork in India’s major cities are growing as Indians are eating more pork.  Demand is also growing from foreigners living in Indian cities, according to Supatra Sawangsri, Director of Thailand’s Trade Promotion Office in Mumbai. She said packaged pork in chilled and frozen forms are starting to be available at upscale supermarkets in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. “The price of imported pork is as high as USD 26/kg,” she said. Most of the pork sold in the country is imported and imported pork is subject to a 30% tariff.
