HPAI H5N6 continues to spread in Vietnam
The highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) H5N6 outbreak that was reported last week has hit Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi with more than 32,300 birds killed. The provinces affected by the outbreak are in the northern and central provinces, mostly at small farms. Local sub-Departments of Animal Health (SDAH) explained that the cold and wet weather in these areas prompted the outbreaks. The SDAH helped the farmers cull the birds and vaccinate the remaining flocks.

Thailand on bird flu alert
An outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in China is raising concerns among livestock authorities in Thailand as it could pose a threat to the local poultry industry. To prevent the virus, Thai livestock chief Surawit Thaneeto has issued a warning to poultry producers across the country to monitor their flock health rigorously. If there is any irregular mortality in the flock, he said, producers have to report to the authorities immediately.
