Brazil pressures India over chicken imports

February 14, 2020

Brazilian Agriculture Minister, Tereza Cristina Dias urged India to lower import tariffs on chicken products. Tariffs stand at 100% as India looks to protect its own industry from cheap imports. The Brazilian minister said reducing chicken import tariffs to 30% could open up other areas of trading. One such area is sugar, where India is currently has surplus production. Pressure for imports has also come from the US but the government thus far has resisted all such moves.
