Bangladesh trials with vannamei to revamp shrimp industry

February 13, 2020

The Bangladeshi government has allowed pilot projects for vannamei farming after 15 years of lobbying. The NGO Shushilan will run one and the other is by the Agri Business Enterprise, both under the supervision of the Department of Fisheries. The industry hopes that vannamei cultivation will boost the struggling shrimp industry. The traditional black tiger shrimp industry is in decline due to high production costs. Between 2014 and 2019, shrimp exports fell by 11,700 tons, losing USD 184 million in value.
