US pork exports to Japan expected to grow with lower tariffs

January 15, 2020

US pork exports to Japan from January-November 2019 fell 6% to 340,568 tons, the US Meat Export Federation reported. Total value of the shipments was also down 7% to USD 1.4 billion. But things may be looking up in 2020. Starting January 1, Japan lowered its tariff rates on US pork and pork products to match those imposed on European, Canadian and Mexican pork. This eliminates a significant price disadvantage that reduced US exports in 2019.
