Full impact of Australia’s bushfire to livestock still unknown

Following the bushfire emergency in Australia, Jason Strong, Managing Director of Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) announced that the impact to livestock is still unknown. “What we do know is that there are close to 80,000 property identification codes in the main affected regions,” he said. MLA’s latest information is that 9% of the national cattle herd live in regions that have been impacted and a further 11% in regions partially impacted. For sheep, 13% of the national flock live in regions that have been significantly impacted and a further 17% in regions partially impacted.
