Charoen Pokphand Foods will introduce plant-based meat substitutes this year in response to growing customer demand. Chief Executive Prasit Boondoungprasert said the products will be sold in Thailand first before being rolled out to the rest of Asia. “This follows the global trend of ‘flexitarians’ – people who have vegetarian meals once or twice a week and restaurants can offer this option as well,” he said. The meat substitutes are part of the firm’s strategy to expand its food business which includes ready-to-eat meals and pre-cooked meats in Thailand.
