The first floating fish farm called Eco-Ark is not far from Singapore’s Changi Point Ferry Terminal. The energy-efficient, self-contained ark is one of three, according to Singapore Food Agency. It houses 30 tons of fish in four cultivating tanks, each with 475,000 liter capacity where a round-the-clock filtration system minimizes contamination and pathogen growth. These USD 3 million contraptions belong to the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence Group, which has patented technology to rear three types of fish namely barramundi, red snapper and a hybrid grouper species.
