Corn crop in several Indian states destroyed by rains

November 8, 2019

Agricultural reports from India reveal that close to 400,000 hectares or half of Maharashtra’s corn crop has been destroyed by unseasonal rain. Rains have also affected crops in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and other neighboring states. Farmers had previously increased their corn acreage given the high prices. The low harvest and high moisture in the corn, is expected to further affect prices and quality for the poultry industry. Agriculture experts however have noted that the high moisture in the soil would spell a better season next year.
