Australia bars Vietnamese traveler over pork haul

Canberra has deported a 60-year-old man from Vietnam at Sydney airport for carrying 4 kg of moon cake with pork without declaring it. Australian Agriculture Minister Bridget McKenzie said the ban on most pork-containing products from ASF affected countries is to prevent the disease from reaching Australia and to protect the country‚Äôs 2700 pork producers. Last month, Australia expelled a 45-year-old Vietnamese woman for carrying more than 4.5 kg of pork. As of September, the country’s customs has seized 27 tons of pork at the airport.
