The Philippines will pay its backyard farmers USD 100/head for pigs culled due to ASF. Previously the amount was USD 60. Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar said other measures approved during a cabinet meeting last Friday include the imposition of ‘lock down’ procedures in affected provinces, and cordoning validated areas as ‘ASF-infected zones’ to control movement of pigs and pork products. The government will also apprehend and file cases against producers and traders caught transporting, selling, buying or slaughtering ASF-infected pigs and selling ASF-tainted pork products.
