India’s pork industry to grow but industry cannot cash in

The Indian pork market is to double in the next four years, according to leading swine producer, DLG Farms, CEO, O.K. Sanjit. He told Asian Agribiz that the market is growing by 10-12% per annum. “The market makes up 2% of the meat industry and that alone is worth USD 2.1 billion,” he said. Despite the potential, Mr Sanjit noted that many farmers had problems scaling up. Capital and support to expand the industry from mostly an unorganized sector to a modern industry is lacking.
