Timor-Leste teams up with Australia to investigate ASF

October 9, 2019

The Agriculture Ministry of Timor-Leste said it has teamed up with its Australian counterpart to investigate the spread of ASF in the country. “Since September 19, the ministry has gathered information about the death of 400 pigs,” the ministry said on October 3. ASF virus is not harmful to humans but causes hemorrhagic fever in pigs that is almost always fatal. There is no antidote or vaccine and the only known way to prevent the disease from spreading is a mass cull of affected animals. Click here to view our ASF updates.
