Indonesia suggests destroying 10m hatching eggs

September 11, 2019

The Indonesian government recently asked poultry breeding companies to discard 10 million hatching eggs or give them away for free, to avoid declining chicken prices. “The only way we can avoid an oversupply situation is by discarding 10 million hatching eggs. It will have a psychological impact on the market,” said I Ketut Diarmita, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health. At least 45 poultry breeding companies will join the program until September 20. This program may have an impact on supply in October and can help farmers avoid further losses.
