Satoyama Farms in Sarawak, East Malaysia is thriving with a new source of protein. Chief executive Peter Yap told Asian Agribiz: “The high cost of feed was what propelled us to look into alternative sources and we found the black soldier fly (BSF) viable. This led us to create the Satoyama Farms in Serian, where we started experimenting with growing the BSF and experimented with different formulation at our own poultry farm.” Thousand commercially-viable chicken are already available in the market per month as their production progresses.
