US beef exports to Philippines up 19%

August 23, 2019

The US shipped nearly 10,000 tons of beef to the Philippines from January-June 2019, up 19% year-on-year, data from the US Meat Export Federation (Usmef) showed.  According to Joel Haggard, Usmef VP for Asia Pacific, the growth is driven in part by the growing popularity of Korean-style barbecue restaurants in the country, which uses large volumes of US beef short plate, a cut that has little domestic demand in the US but is popular in Asia.
