North East India on alert for ASF

July 10, 2019

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s Nagaland Centre has warned its pig producers to be alert to the potential spread of ASF from Tibet. “Reports from OIE has confirmed the disease in Tibet and if it spreads to India especially the north-eastern states it could wipe out the pig industry in India,” said the report. Farmers should vaccinate their pigs against Classical Swine Fever and report all suspicious outbreaks. Import of all pork products from infected countries will be screened and strict border control will be enforced.
