Cargill invests in startup raising meat in a lab

May 27, 2019

Cargill recently joined in the nearly USD 12 million funding round for Israeli Aleph Farms, the first startup in the world to grow a beef steak from cattle cells. In 2017, the agriculture giant invested in Memphis Meats, a startup producing the world’s first chicken strips from animal cells. “Consumer demand for protein is strong. That means there’s an opportunity for plant and cultured protein growth to complement our traditional animal protein portfolio,” said Sonya Roberts, Managing Director of Growth Ventures and Strategic Pricing for Cargill Protein North America.
