Vissan plans for pork supply amidst ASF outbreak

April 16, 2019

Vissan JSC has predicted that pork prices in Vietnam will rise, as supply shrinks. The company has considered importing to meet local demand. “If ASF spreads we will have to launch imported frozen pork to meets domestic needs and avoid price fluctuation. The pork is from countries without epidemics and with full traceability,” said Nguyen Ngoc An, General Director. Currently, Vissan has 1600 tons of frozen frozen pork available. The company is planning to import from 2000-2200 tons. This will meet market demand for 70 days. “If ASF does not spread and Vissan still has a good source of piglets we still store frozen meat. And if the epidemic is over, we will turn this into processed food,” said Mr An.
