Thai livestock industry must take antibiotics off the menu

Thailand’s livestock industry must transform itself to meet growing demand for antibiotic-free and animal welfare meat and eggs. “With food safety and health issues becoming more important, antibiotic-free certified meat and eggs will be prioritized by consumers and retailers,” Chayanon Kittayachaweng, President of the Animal Husbandry Association of Thailand, said. Speaking at a seminar on prospects for the Thai livestock industry, Mr Chayanon said business operators should act fast and seek a suitable management approach to be competitive. Several studies in Thailand and overseas found that those who are slow to change faced an 18% contraction in their livestock and food supply chain operations.
