Kuwait bans poultry imports from India

February 10, 2019

The Kuwaiti Public Authority for Food and Nutrition this week placed a ban on the import of all kinds of poultry meat (fresh and frozen) and their derivatives from India due to outbreak of bird flu (H5N1) in the country. The ban took effect after poultry imported from India was found to be infected with bird flu at the Rai pet market in Kuwait. This led to authorities culling the most of the birds at the pet market. Earlier this year, India’s eastern state of Bihar reported an outbreak of bird flu with authorities culling over 15,000 poultry as a result.
