In a bid to streamline statistics on local fish/aquaculture farms, Malaysia’s Penang state government has started collating data on the local industry. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this move is to grow the USD 239 million industry further nationally and globally. The collated data will contain information such as the number of licenses issued by the Fisheries Department and size or number of farms among others. Currently, fish farmers are given a temporary occupation license for areas in the sea to set up their cages.
