After being struck by avian influenza (AI) in the middle of 2017, the Philippines plans to ask the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) to declare the country AI-free soon. An official at the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) said the Bureau has been monitoring Pampanga and Nueva Ecija, the two provinces hit by the virus. No further AI incidences have been reported and the agency expects to complete the third round of surveillance by end this week. Barring any new cases, BAI hopes to submit its application to the OIE by mid-June.
