Vietnamese PM wants seafood quality elevated

April 17, 2018

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked related authorities to elevate the standard of seafood exports. He has directed ministries, localities and specifically, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to review and finalize a mechanism and policies to ensure seafood exports meet requirements of the importing countries. Vietnam seafood exports have been flagged and rejected due to food safety violations. This has affected the image and reputation of Vietnamese seafood products globally. According to statistics from MARD, in the first nine months of 2016, Vietnam had 542 seafood shipments returned by 38 importing countries mainly due to food hygiene and safety breaches, and high residues of some antibiotics.
