Over the past weeks, pig prices have steadily increased and is approaching USD 1.75/kg, the highest level in half a year. According to a number of producers, prices have appreciated due to demand from Cambodia. However, despite the increase in prices, farmers are holding the pigs to wait for prices to rise further. In addition, the pig population in the country has fallen sharply. According to the Dong Nai Animal Husbandry Association, more than 70% of small and medium farms have closed down. Local companies estimate that prices will be back to normal this week following the Cambodian New Year festivities.
