China suspends poultry imports

March 15, 2018

Avian influenza outbreaks in Texas, France and Mexico has forced Chinese officials to suspended imports of poultry meat from these regions. China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) cited confirmations of low-pathogenic H7N1 bird flu in Hopkins County, Texas, H5N3 in Finestere Department in France and highly pathogenic H7N3 in two states in Mexico for the action. Hong Kong imported about 290,000 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and 580 million poultry eggs from U.S. sources in 2017, according to a HKSAR spokesperson.
