US bone-in beef returns to Thailand

After a 14-year absence, US bone-in beef has returned to Thailand. This was marked by a gathering at the residence of US Ambassador Glyn Davies that encouraged local meat importers to meet with potential end users and explore importation of an expanded range of US beef cuts. While Thailand is not a big market for US beef and has a 50% import duty, Sabrina Yin, US Meat Export Federation (Usmef) Director for Asean, said that Usmef will continue work to increase demand for US beef in the country. Russ Nicely, Agricultural Counsellor at the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service in Bangkok, noted the growth potential for US bone-in beef in Thailand’s restaurant and foodservice sectors. The event was attended by more than 200 guests.
