Japan’s National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations, or Zen-Noh, is set to export more wagyu beef and other foodstuffs to Hong Kong, Japan’s biggest food export market. Nikkei Asian Review said Zen-Noh will establish a subsidiary under its arm for export activities, Zen-Noh International, in March. Starting out with a staff of just three, the unit will draw up sales strategies targeting local restaurants and supermarkets. Exports to Hong Kong by Zen-Noh are seen reaching USD 31.9 million in fiscal 2017, and the cooperatives plan to lift them to USD 46 million in short order. With appetites for Japanese food spreading throughout Asia, Zen-Noh considers the region overall a key export customer. It intends to establish hubs in markets like Taiwan, Thailand and China as well.
