Philippine 2017 hog output seen to decline on lower Q4 demand

January 11, 2018

Philippine hog producers may fall short of their production target in 2017 as demand during the fourth quarter seemed lower than usual. According to Edwin Chen, President of the Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines, total hog output this year could settle 10 % below the target volume of 2.4 million tonnes. This would mean production may fall by 3.18% from a record high production of 2.231 million tonnes in 2016.  Mr Chen also said the higher volume of pork imports this year competed with the market supplied by local production.
